Versailles Terrestrial Globe
The world at your fingertips
This globe is fixed on a straight brass axis. The printed coloured map represents the planet Earth as we know it today. The celebrated cartographer Robert de Vaugondy produced two large globes in 1752, one celestial and the other terrestrial. This French cartographer was appointed royal censor and cartographer by king Louis XV.
