This country writing case with its 'honey' finish contains a wooden pen-holder, brass nibs and a bottle of black ink. The writing board can be folded for easy transportation.
A writing case is a small portable 'desk' for carrying all the writing implements: pens, ink and paper. Pen-holders and metal nibs were used for writing from the classic period on. They are still used for calligraphy.
