Silver hot chocolate pot
This silver hot chocolate pot is a product of the celebrated silversmithing establishment Ercuis. The pot is in one piece and can contain 60cl of liquid. The border here is a metal decoration around the hot chocolate pot. In silverware, it can carry several patterns such as a 'beaded' and 'ribboned' design. Here it is plain, without any chasing or pattern.
To obtain a piece of silverware, a certain number of elements must be prepared separately (they are moulded, laminated, stamped, engraved, etc.). The silversmith then assembles all these elements to make the final piece by silver brazing, pewter welding, crimping and mounting by screws and nuts.
This hot chocolate pot evokes the great enthusiasm for hot chocolate shared by kings Louis XIV and Louis XV as well as by queen Marie-Antoinette, who brought with her from Austria her own hot chocolate maker when she married Louis XVI.
