Glazed chandelier with 3 lights
A chandelier for an exceptional dinner party
This cast zinc alloy chandelier with three lights and its '18th century' inspiration fits into the tradition of the French decorative arts. It is made up of elements that require the intervention of different metalwork trades: planisher, turner, chaser, etc. The final piece is then polished with buffing pads, leather and powder of volcanic origin and then cleaned by being dipped in grease-removal and rinsing baths. The chandelier is delivered in two parts to be assembled and is presented in an elegant mint-coloured box.
In the reign of the Sun King, the production of gold and silver plate was on a spectacular scale. Under the direction of Colbert, the minister of Louis XIV, the royal manufactories participated in the design and production of masterpieces intended to immortalise the glory of Louis XIV. The king's appetite for silver plate was very great, so whole suites of furniture were made from solid silver for him. Unfortunately, heavy war expenses led to part of this sumptuous furniture being melted down in 1669.
